Our kids’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes are designed to teach children the fundamental techniques of the sport while  promoting self-defense, physical fitness, and valuable life skills like focus, discipline, and confidence. The curriculum typically includes warm-ups, technique drills, and sparring in a safe and supervised environment. Controlled sparring, also known as rolling, allows students to apply their learned techniques against a resisting opponent. This helps them develop their skills in a real-world scenario and in real-time, while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.

Suitable for most children age 5 and up.

What should my child wear to class?

For your child’s first class, athletic attire like a t-shirt and comfortable shorts or athletic pants, without pockets or zippers, would be suitable. When you and your child decide to commit to the class regularly, a uniform will be necessary. The uniform is called a Gi. We have a wide range of youth and adult sizes available for sale at the gym. You may also purchase one on your own from any outside source or brand that you prefer.

Yes! BJJ, when taught by experienced and qualified instructors in a controlled environment, is safe for children. Safety is our top priority.

We often incorporate games to make learning more engaging and enjoyable for young students. By framing BJJ techniques as games, children are more likely to stay motivated, improve their understanding of concepts, and develop essential skills in a fun, playful manner. Each game is really just a re-flavored BJJ technique or skill broken down into more easily understandable instructions.

While BJJ may seem like a solo sport, it is dependent on practice with a partner. The practice is inherently close quarters and very much inside normal personal space boundaries. If your child is not ready to physically work with another student in class, it may be best to wait until he or she can do so.
